The institutional image of the 4th World Water Forum is in sequence with that of previous world water fora at the same time that it gives the 4th Forum its own personality, which can be seen in the original design of "Local Actions for a Global Challenge".
The central theme of the 4th World Water Forum, “Local Actions for a Global Challenge’, is represented by Hands.

The hand is a universal symbol for action and integration. It also evokes, together with other hands, cooperation and team work.

The water issue is a global concern with local manifestations. Five different hands, with five different colors represent people from diverse races, and five continents.

A water drop in the palm of the hand means the local actions that must be taken to protect and assure sustainable use of water.

Complete or partial reproduction is forbidden without prior written authorization from the Secretariat of the 4th World Water Forum.
