The central theme of the 4th World Water Forum, “Local Actions for a Global Challenge’, is represented by hands.

The hand is a universal symbol for action and integration. It also evokes, together with other hands, cooperation and team work.

The water issue is a global concern with local manifestations. Five different hands, with five different colors represent people from diverse races, and the five continents.

A drop of water in the palm of the hand signifies the local actions that must be undertaken to protect and assure the sustainable use of water.
