The mission of the IRI is to enhance societys capability to understand, anticipate and manage the impacts of seasonal climate fluctuations, in order to improve human welfare and the environment, especially in developing countries. This mission is to be conducted through strategic and applied research, education and capacity building, and provision of forecast and information products, with an emphasis on practical and verifiable utility and partnerships.

7.TITLE OF THE PROPOSED SESSION
Title:    Achieving Water Security: Innovative Solutions for System Resilience
8.OBJECTIVE
This thematic session will present demonstrations of resilience systems in water and economic development that improve the reliability and quality of water supplies, reduce the vulnerability of economies and people to climate shocks and mitigate the impact of climate variability and strong seasonality on development.

10.EXTECTED OUTPUTS OF SESSION.
To illuminate a decision framework for infrastructure and institutional choices that is illustrative for policy makers seeking an investment path to water security. We seek to highlight water systems and policies at local levels that are most promising for meeting the global challenge of increased resilience in the water and economic systems of the least developed countries.

A call for papers will be conducted to be followed by a virtual workshop for the selection of case studies and elicitation of consensus themes.
